Famous for its gyokuro, Asahina, Shizuoka Prefecture, tea leaves are dried in a tencharo (a special furnace for tencha) and then ground to perfection. Our matcha is carefully ground on a stone mill, which differs from tencha, a type of Chinese tea. Like gyokuro, Japanese tencha is made from tea leaves grown in the shade before harvest, then steamed and dried in a tencharo to ensure the highest quality.
